Sopot Karlikowo is located in the south west, borders with Gdansk to the south and is flanked by the beach to the east. Here you can find residential buildings, hotels, campgrounds and the rest is parks and open space. There are only two high-rises about 12 stories high, built in the mid 1970s. Although this entire district was once considered for dense residential development, fortunately those plans were abandoned and the idyllic quiet atmosphere was preserved. Of course the main attraction here is the beach with many pubs along the seaside promenade and the yacht club. One of the most interesting things is the fishing settlement from the 19th century, where you can see an old anchor dating from the 17th century, which was found by fishermen in nearby waters. This place is usually busy during summer. There is a separate path on the seaside promenade for bikes and of course there is the beach with many pubs and special play areas for children.
The windsurfing club makes this place the most interesting, as it belongs to one of the best in Europe. The club members have won world championships many times. The club is sponsored by the city and its many donors; it allows the expansion and modernization of the existing infrastructure. This place is open to the public and you can either rent equipment or hire an instructor. Next to the club is the building which belongs to the insurance company "Hestia", the biggest taxpayer to the town, and also the club sponsor. The club began in 1983 and it now has about 300 members, who do windsurfing as a hobby or as a professional sport. On the club premises there is also a small hotel (all rooms have baths, TV sets and an internet connection) and the restaurant "Mesa Sopocka" (which serves breakfast and other meals for hotel guests), two recreation and lecture rooms (seating 60), equipped with boards and a screen, a small room that can be used for training courses and conferences (seating about 25). The bar "Sloneczko" is also open in the summer season. The Club often organizes regattas - including the Polish Championship in 1992 and the international, European and World Championship in 1997.
